life's struggle and how she was able to become an air force pilot, when women
did not do such jobs.
"I loved mathematics, physics and astronomy. I was an officer. My mother and father were members of the Somali Police Force. We lived in Afisiyone camp. While I was reading, I used to see the airplanes taking off early in the morning, and I used to say, "Oh my God! "Don't kill me without getting off the plane from this airport," said Asli who spoke to the BBC.
She said that at
that time, Somali parents believed in the idea that girls steal knowledge from
boys, thus preventing them from getting higher education.
